Why Apple iOS Remains the Best

It’s been a subject worthy of an argument among friends for many years, which is the better OS for smartphones. While the fight continues, we decided to get detail about what these platforms have to offer and how they compare directly to each other.

It’s important to mention that we’re not comparing devices here, but rather the actual operating system (OS) of Android and iOS. First things first, most think Android is better because everyone uses it and everyone who doesn’t have an Apple has an Android phone. Well, think about this clearly, and you might see it from a different perspective.

How many different companies use Android software, all of them right? How many cheap Chinese mobile companies use Android, again, all of them right? How many of the Chinese companies related to data theft use Android? I’m sure you get the point we’re trying to make.

Sure, it’s amazing how well Android is doing, and yes, they have some great services and a huge range of apps, but they also come with more risk, which is why we would like to point out why the Apple fans prefer to stick to Apple and now move over the Android.

The Quality of Apps

The argument among friends usually stops when apps are mentioned, stating that the apps are the same and that Android simply has more. Sure, they do, but how many of them are the same with a different theme? On top of that, what’s the security level on those apps? How private are they? Who developed them?

When it comes down to it, Apple has much higher standards for their app store, and developers have to meet the standard they put out. Therefore, developing apps for Android is a lot easier and the reason most developers choose Android. Sure, it’s a bigger market, but not by much. Besides, why not create an app for both platforms if you’re quality meets that of Apple and you don’t have anything to hide?

Viruses

Some think it’s impossible to create viruses for iOS, but it’s actually not. However, it’s far from easy, especially with the Apple development team testing each and every app for things they don’t want. On top of that, Apple has some really strict rules and procedures for those who dare take the chance of creating a virus on iOS.

On Android, it’s not quite as hard, and it happens all the time, which is why you need anti-virus and all types of special software just to protect you details.

Yes, Apple doesn’t allow you to put in memory cards, but that’s simply additional protections to avoid getting software on the device that might hard your phone and that of other Apple devices. Those are all reasons Apple have the annoying features that doesn’t let you do the transfers via Bluetooth and all, which is all geared toward keeping the iOS platform free of the software that’s ruined other brilliant operating systems.

Google Chrome vs. Microsoft Edge

Prior to the Windows 10 update, many might have found the regular internet explorer to be dull, slow and just doesn’t provide the functionality we need. Many of us found alternatives to search the web with, including Firefox, Chrome and many others. Not only did these perform a lot faster, but they also came with a great variety of plug-ins that allow you to do so much more.

Now, Windows 10 has been around for a while, which was Microsoft’s major gap to introduce their new and improved explorer called Microsoft Edge. From the moment you got onto Windows 10, Edge has been shoved in your face just about everywhere you look.

Many just use it once to download their alternative, which is followed by multiple steps that recommend you use Edge instead. It’s almost annoying that they try to force you to keep Edge, but luckily Chrome and Firefox include the links that help you switch your main browser quickly, irrespective of what Microsoft wants you to do.

So, with these quick and easy changes, most just go back to what they were using before without even giving Edge as much as a blink. However, what has been improved and is it worth getting Edge now?

So, What’s Edge All About?

Well, when you first open it, it’s bound to impress with the new design that features thinner bezzles and a much cleaner overall design. They’ve also taken away many of the buttons and give you a nice view of what your doing and the tabs currently open.

On top of that, it’s easy to see that Microsoft has been focusing on the features of Edge a lot more, which include integration with Cortana. The company also claims that Edge remains the most efficient with laptop battery life, which is a huge benefit for those working on the move.

At the end of the day, it’s quite easy to see that Edge is a major step up from IE 11, but it’s still the same thing, just a lot faster, more secure and easier to use. They have at least made it possible to sync your details, passwords and more across devices, making it a lot easier when you travel.

On the downside, they still don’t allow you to make the browser your own by customising it with the same amount of skins and features as we see with competitors, including Google Chrome. We also find it hard to find all the plug-in options that come standard with Chrome and Firefox, which means those who use their IE to link up with other programs might find it hard to use the new explorer.

There’s no doubt about it, Microsoft has certainly made it a lot better and provide you with better functionality. The addition of being able to minimise single tabs and other features are sure to impress most, and those who haven’t become accustomed to other explorers might just find Edge to be the perfect companion.

Best New Features for Google Chrome

The internet explorer that took over Microsoft’s IE is now officially more than ten years old and owns more than 60% of the market. To remain among the best, Google has to keep updating the features they provide along with security. If there’s one thing we all love, it’s having access to more functionality that really works and allows us to do more with a lot less.

Well, in 2019, Google Chrome is yet again one of the most popular browsers, not only for PC but for just about all devices. Not only can you get it on your Mac and PC, but it’s available on mobile phones, tablets and even televisions these days. This simply gives the company the motivation to move forward and keep their services at a standard that no one else can match. So, let’s have a look at what’s new in Google Chrome and what makes it even better than before.

Fill Forms Better and Faster

Yes, we’re even getting into the boring things as Chrome just manages to make it a little easier and faster to get past the sections of online that’s become a drag for most of us. There are more and more places online that require you to fill in details, and most hate it because it’s always the same thing over and over.

You can provide Google with the info directly by going to your Chrome settings or simply leave it to learn from the forms you fill in. Not only will it remember your card details in a safe and trusted place, but it also fills in your address details and the rest with amazing accuracy.

The Small Thing Matter

One of the biggest advantages of the Chrome browser is the small things that allow it to work as well as it does. The small settings that let you do browsing the way you prefer without any limitations or annoying paths just to get to smaller settings. Instead, it’s all open, easy to use and simplistic.

One of the greatest small things is the seamless syncing of your settings and preferences from just about any other browser, including Firefox, Edge and just about all the rest. Of course, this makes switching a lot easier, especially since you don’t even need a plug-in to get it done either.

On top of that, Chrome also allows you to use any search engine, removing even more limitations. They’ve also ensures you have the option to sync these settings with other devices and that you can choose your own features and themes. Sure, others do it as well, but Chrome just does the small things better, and it’s all in one place!

The Dino Game!

Since Chrome turned 10, it turned the boring “No Internet” screen into a brilliant game. Do you remember the dinosaur that used to appear at the top of a no internet page? Well, when you see him again, press the spacebar and instant start a game where you need to lead the dinosaur over obstacles for the best score in the world!

Apple’s New iPad Pro 12.9 Dominates Even i7 Laptops

The new 2018 iPad Pro set a new standard for tablets and what they are capable of. Remember when the iPhone X came out with the edge to edge display? Well, the new iPad Pro follows a similar design, but with a much bigger screen and features unlike anything else!

Apple has once again made huge changes in comparison to anything else on the market, starting with a liquid retina display stretching from one edge to the other. Sure, there’s still a small hint of a frame around the screen, much like we see with the iPhone X. However, the annoying nudge at the top doesn’t form part of the iPad Pro.

It also follows the iPhone in terms of the home button, giving users, even more, screen space as no buttons appear at the bottom. As we’ve seen with the iPhone X and newer models, you would simply slide up and use other gestures to switch between apps, minimise them, split screen and do just about anything else you can think of. The great thing is, on the new iPad you simply get even more options as this combines the features of the iPhone and MacBook Pro.

Additional External Features

One of the biggest advantages of the new iPad is the USB-C port, allowing you to connect the iPad to a 5k display or even use it to transfer pictures, connect other devices and much more, all at super speeds!

To provide a surround sound experience each time you play your favourite song or even watch a video on you too, Apple arms the new iPad with four speakers, giving you a powerful and deep sound quality no matter how you hold the iPad.

It still comes with a simple and easy to use connection port, allowing you to instantly charge your Apple pencil or connect additional hardware such as a keyboard. The best part of it all, there’s no need to connect anything with Bluetooth, and you can disconnect your iPad instantly when you want to Facetime with friends or simply sit back and watch your favourite series on Netflix.

Software Beating Just About Everything!

If you are looking for a device with huge power, you simply cannot go wrong by choosing the new iPad Pro. Geekbench 4 is known doe testing the performance of just about any device is, and when the new iPad was tested, it simply dominated anything in its path, including the Dell XPS 13 and even the Surface Pro 6.

Not only does the iPad transcode 4K video in a third of the time, but it also converts raw pictures in almost half the time that any other device does.

I bet you are wondering what the catch is, but surprisingly the is no catch as even the battery live lasts for 3 hours longer than others while continuously using the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi. The all-new iPad Pro certainly makes it the best choice for everything from business through to watching your favourite sports live!

Galaxy Note 9 vs. iPhone Xs Max

With the latest releases being available yet again, we see some amazing new features with huge processing power from Samsung and iPhone. As many of you know, iPhones don’t change very often when it comes to design, but the iPhone X (10) has become the new desire for users from around the world, especially with the huge screen on a smaller device and the impressive face recognition features that completely removes the need for a home button.

The phone also introduced some annoying features such as the nudge at the top of the screen and not having access to a headphone jack, but for most, these aren’t deal breakers and the rest have the impressive Samsung Galaxy Nope 9 options to consider. Well, that’s until Apple presented their iPhone Xs Max, giving you an even bigger screen and more of the amazing features that allows this company to remain among the best. So, how do the Xs Max and Note 9 compare?

Build Design

There’s no question that these are premium devices, both offering a glass back and front with an attractive metal body to keep it all in perfect shape. Dropping either of these phones would most likely result in a small scratch at the very most, thanks to the extremely strong glass.

The finishes are somewhat different as Samsung chooses a coloured phone in multiple options and Apple simply went with the elegant white or black and polished trip, making it loop sleek, clean and neat, not that the Samsung doesn’t.

On the downside, the Note looks a little plastic, but that’s just because of the colour as the phone actually consists of very strong materials. It also comes with bigger frames around the screen at the top and bottom while being thinner on the sides, allowing a perfect view of the screen.

Internals

Now, those of you considering the move to Apple from Android, you might find it annoying that it doesn’t include any SD card options, but at least

Opioid Overdose Detected by New High-Tech Wristband

Students at the Carnegie Mellon University earns all the credit for developing the new high-tech wristband, called the Hope Band. The wearable can detect opioid overdose and will flash repeatedly and sound an alarm once an overdose is detected, while it also instantly issues a text message containing the location of the wearer once low blood oxygen levels are sensed. The Hope Bank also allows health care professionals to administer medication that could reverse the effects of overdose and save lives.

In the US, Opioid Overdose is A Major Health Risk

With the overdose of opioid being a major health risk in the US, the new high-tech Hope Band wearable could provide doctors with all they need to quickly detect the warning signs that could prevent fatal painkiller reactions.

The Hope Band is designed to provide help when an overdose is detected, the inexpensive device tracts your health on the go and is sponsored by the pharmaceutical firm, Pinney Associates. Its main task of the watch-style bank is to detect pulse oximetry; its sensors track the oxygen levels of the wearer’s blood. The process takes place via an LED light that shines through the skin to track absorption changes. Should the wearable senses low oxygen levels that could potentially be caused by overdose, it evaluates it for 10 seconds and then sends out an alarm.

Opioid Crises Increased via Three Dramatic Stages

The Opioid crises happened in different phases, the first was in 1991 when a sharp increase was detected in the prescribing of opioid as a painkiller, which is also when deaths involving this prescription drug increases. By 1999, over 86% of people using opioids were non-cancer patients and the prescription drug was used for non-cancer pain.

286% Increase in Drug-Related Deaths 2002 – 2013

By 2010, the second phase or more accurately the opioid epidemic took on a whole new level and there was a rapid increase in heroin abuse deaths. Opioid prescriptions decreased in an effort to make it harder for abusers to obtain, although the focus shifted to cheaper more available option, heroin mixed with the much more potent and totally illegal opioid version. The death rate due to heroin overdose from 2002 up to 2013 increase rapidly, by 286% and more than 80% of heroin users admitted that they also misused opioid as a prescription drug before switching to heroin.

The third stage of the opioid disaster started in 2013 and a massive increase in deaths directly related to fentanyl, a synthetic opioids drug took place. Yet the in 2016 the sharpest rise in deaths occurred when more than 20,000 fentanyl and other related drugs occurred. At the same time, users are at a much higher risk of Hepatitis C and B, Aids, HIV and other infections to the heart. Which is why the Hope Band could be one of the major breakthroughs in preventing drug-related deaths in the future. The wearable is still tested and not available yet.

Apple’s Siri Saves Helps Save Yet Another Life

Many might have heard about the life-saving stories that involves the virtual assistant from Apple, called Siri. There have even been pets saved with the feature as people ask Siri how to perform CPR on everything from birds through to dogs.

Well, this time she managed to provide a boy of just 4 years old to get in touch with emergency services when his pregnant mom lost consciousnesses as a side effect from her morning sickness medication.

As you can imagine, most 4-year-old kids wouldn’t understand what’s happening, never mind consider getting in touch with emergency services. Well, this isn’t just any regular boy as he knew exactly what to do and what the best way is to get his mom the help she needed.

How it All Happened

Beau Austin, a 4-year-old boy from South Wales discovered his mother passed out one morning. Not know the reason or what to do, he decided to ask Siri, the virtual assistant he had spoken to many times before on his mom’s iPhone.

Instead of asking Siri what to do, he already knew emergency services are required and asked her to dial the UK emergency services number instead. When asked, the boy said he learnt about the feature by watching people do it on television.

The handlers are trained to talk callers through emergency situations and while Beau managed to stay calm through it all, it was his thought process and knowledge of technology that really made the difference here. The boy also knew his address, which is obviously the most important.

Needless to say, everything turned out for the best and Mr Austin managed to get the help she needed, thanks to her son. In an interview, she said she didn’t even know Siri could do that, but the boy’s young mind obviously knew differently and managed to help the best way possible.

As acknowledgement of his incredible achievement and bravery, Beau got a visit from the ambulance services at school, which also include the mascot (Jack the Patient) who rewarded him with a goodies bag and a certificate in front of all his class mates and friends.

Important Things Kids Should Know

Without the knowledge of how to called emergency services and his address, young Beau wouldn’t have been able to assist his mom the way he did. Sure, it might not have been a life-threatening situation, but it could just as easily have been.

It’s important to kids to know things like their address and how to get in touch with emergency services. There might not always be a smartphone with Siri or Google assistant on, which is why as parents we need to make these numbers easily accessible for kids and teach them when they need to call it.

Teaching your kids these basics could make the difference between life and death. It’s also well worth teaching your kids what their address is and the postal code while also remaining calm while talking to the emergency services.

How Apple’s Siri Compares to Alexa and Google Assistant

Apple’s Home Pod finally enters the market with a price of $349, putting in direct competition with the Google Home max. At this premium price, you’d expect Apple’s Siri assistant to have some of the latest features that really outshines the cheaper options, including Alexa and the standard Google Assistant.

The Apple Home Pod comes with a range of interesting hardware features, but seems to lack some of the capabilities, earning Siri the reputation as the dumbest home assistant of the big names. Let’s compare the options and see how it actually matches up, what it can do, can’t do and how it compares to the features from the other major competitions that cost a lot less, including the Amazon Echo Plus ($149) and the Google ($99).

The best way to compare the assistance and what they can do is by asking them a few questions to see how detailed their responses are and how helpful they actually are. We’ll be asking them the exact same questions, making the comparison easy to judge with each device.

Playing Music

Why all three devices can easily find and play the music you ask it for, they certainly react in their own unique ways when you ask them to do specific things with the song. Asking to add a song to your favourites is actually the easier with the Apple device and it also automatically syncs the “favourites” list to your phone, laptop and other apple devices. Alexa requires a favourites folder to be created while Google asks you to purchase a subscription of $9.99.

Sipping ahead is seamless on all the devices, and it seems the Apple device gets you what you asked for the fastest. Once you ask it to play something from a certain genre or band, it does so instantly. The other 2 include more info, for example, Alexa tells you it’s shuffling songs from the specific band.

Reminders

As most would know, Apple is already quite good with setting specific reminders and timers. While it can set reminders and timers seamlessly, it says it cannot access your calendar when you want to add new events. The other two devices add these items directly without hassle and really make it easy to set up the time.

It’s hard to believe that Apple wouldn’t include such a simple feature, meaning it could relate to the lets and sharing features to the Apple Siri device.

Searching

Each of the assistance allow you to easy search the internet and gain access to details about just about everything. For example, you can ask them to “Wikipedia the sun”, which instantly results in the assistant reading about what the page says, well for Alexa and Siri at least. Google assistant told us it doesn’t understand.

Asking it to call or text a specific person also results in a range of different responses from each device. The Apple seems to make it the easiest while Google goes on about emergency calls and doesn’t know who to call. Alexa requires permission from your Android device, but we’re sure if it’s set up correctly, it would work perfectly.

Google Maps Now with AR

Have you ever setup Google maps to direct you to the next location only to find yourself confused by what direction you need to start in? If you have, you’re not along and Google is well aware of this, which is why they now provide more features that uses the camera on your smartphone.

On May 8th, 2018, the company announced a new feature that introduces AR into the navigation system on smartphones. No longer would you need to wonder about where to start or even where your destination is down the road as you can simply point your camera down the road and see the mark among the buildings.

We know what you’re thinking, they’ve taken the Google street view and turned it into AR? Well, not completely as your camera would actually show what’s in front of you right now, including people, cars or whatever else it might be pointed at. On top of that image, the AR would show you what direction you need to travel in.

Driving with the Google Maps AR

The new feature certainly makes navigating a lot safer and easier to use. You don’t have to look down at your phone anymore as you approach an intersection, but can rather pick up the device, point it down the road and see exact how far your next turn off or destination is.

With this feature, you won’t be taking your eyes off the road either as the camera shows you exactly what’s going on since it uses the camera as you would when trying to take a photo or make a video. The only addition would be the arrows or details about the destination you’re trying to reach.

Discover New Places

Ever wanted to stop for a quick coffee, lunch or just see what fashion stores are around you? We all know Google has made it very easy to find places with the “near me” feature that allows you to see what places are in your area. From there you can simply click on it and get the exact directions.

Well, with AR, they’ve taken it yet another step further and allow you to use the camera on your device and point it down any street to instantly see businesses, restaurants are more.
You Can Still Use the 2D Map

Even while you use a camera feature, you will still see the map at the bottom of your screen with all the usual and information. Therefore, you will see the entire route up to your destination along with the point of interest next to the round.

Google simply added the feature instead of trying to change the entire app, making it easy to use while also not taking away any of the functionality you have become used to over the last few years.
